Speaker 1 00:00:07 Hello and welcome back. This is once again, the deputy of movie, deputy.com, bringing you the movie recaps from December 3rd, 2021. I hope that wherever you are and whatever you're doing, that you're doing something to make memories because that's truly what life is about. And unfortunately this week we didn't make too many good ones, at least where the movies are concerned. And I'm about to go into a lot more detail on that. These recaps that we're going to be discussing today are not suitable for younger ears. There will not be any profanity or anything like that, but the subject matter of these movies is a little bit much for younger audiences and even some adult audiences. So if you are sensitive or easily triggered by suicide or severe mental illnesses or anything like that, then this might not be the episode for you. I always try to say that my reviews are for everyone, but sometimes the movies just don't make that possible. Speaker 1 00:01:07 So if you're ready to get started, we're going to go ahead and start with a movie called silent night. This story goes in a completely different direction than what I had thought strictly from the trailer. The trailer looked like a dinner party where somebody was targeting the guests and trying to kill them. But I openly admit that that was completely off base. And my apologies for taking that from the trainer, but that's kind of what the Treader had played this out to be. So that's what I was expecting and going in expecting that and getting this, that just kind of leads to a whole new mess on a different level because silent night, it is about a family over in Europe. And now as the wife and mom, and she wants everything to be perfect. It's going to be this family gathering for Christmas and she's going around and she's rushing. Speaker 1 00:01:56 She's getting everything ready. She's trying to get the kids all together and cleaned up and just kind of ready to go before everybody arrives. Anybody that's ever planned a party, especially around the holidays can understand the chaos and the hecticness of all of that. But what ends up happening is just completely in a different direction. As the family starts to gather together, things start to play out and what's really happening. And you might ask yourself what is really happening and here I'm going to be going into a little bit more spoilers on grade typically would for a movie. But I think it's important in a movie such as this, just to kind of give you fair warning and some may still want to go see it, but I don't think it's going to be anybody that has a whole lot of common sense. This is definitely targeted to the Gretta thunbergii generation, because she's even mentioned in this movie in a positive light and needless to say, I do not see her in a positive light at all, but the movie deputies side of it, that's a little bit different. Speaker 1 00:02:59 This family is all gathering because they're preparing to commit suicide. The Russians are planning on releasing a gas on a particular date, which is going to be the day after this party. And the whole government has explained to the people, the dangers of the SCAs. And so all of the citizens have received a suicide pill. And so this family and many other families throughout the country and throughout other areas are taking this pill to avoid being killed by the SCAs. But there's one member among them. A young boy named art is her son. And I'd say he's 10, 12 years old ish. But he was like, what if the scientists are wrong? People don't generally know they've made a mistake until they've made it. And he didn't want to take the pill because he didn't want to die. As the story kind of plays out, he ends up kind of running away from his family and not like running away in the typical sense, but just like running down, like down the road, they catch up to him and he ends up getting exposed to some of the gas. Speaker 1 00:03:59 So after they get him home, it, the rest of the family think that he has died because of how he presents. So they all think he's dead. And so everybody kind of goes through and they take these suicide pills. And the whole thing is about the government. Wouldn't lie to us. Trust the government. The government knows best. Another line in the movie is that pain is intolerable. That's why some people choose to die. And I mean, this is just a really dark, twisted drama of a movie. It's supposed to be a comedy about dying with dignity, but there is absolutely nothing to laugh about in this entire story. It is dark. It is misleading. It's just the whole, it feels like if Carl Marx and Jack Kevorkian had made a movie together, this would be it. And if you're not familiar with either of those names, then perhaps he should read up on them because this is truly a movie that would have been like something that those two ideas would have fit well together. Speaker 1 00:05:01 If you're wondering what I gave this on the movie, deputy scale, I actually gave this a three out of 10, which is, if you really must see this, wait till it comes up, um, Blu-ray or DVD, the score surprisingly would have been even lower. Had it not been for one thing, there is a twist in the last few seconds of the movie that almost redeem it, but just because of the weight of the entire story up to that point, it just doesn't quite get there. Now, if you thought that was depressing, unfortunately it's not going to get much better because the only other movie that I got around to reviewing this week was Wolf. If you listened to the upcoming movies podcast, right? Discussed this movie, this past Thursday, that was just, I was not looking forward to Wolf at all, trying to set my personal things aside. Speaker 1 00:05:53 I was really hoping that they had gone and kind of a comedic route with it. I even mentioned on Thursday that they had gone a comedic route with it. It may have actually had some potential, but no, fortunately they did not choose to go that direction. You just have to wonder why this story of Wolf focuses on species dysphoria also known as species identity disorder. Now it's, it's really sad that this is not just something mentioned in the movie. This is actually a mental illness that people suffer from, or at least they claim to suffer from it. Now I'm not trying to make fun of mental illness in the least depression, anxiety, things like that. Didn't need to be addressed and treated. But then there's things like this that are just even beyond delusional. The story is the whole, that nature is a construct of man. Speaker 1 00:06:50 I don't live in the body. I should. And don't even get me started on the whole direction that that could possibly go in. There are two genders, occasionally wants to get mixed in between, not anything else. So I'm not even trying to go that different direction with the whole I a live in the body I should. But this story even kind of reaches that a little bit. The whole thing is when you gaze into the eyes of the abyss, the abyss gazes back at you, the person in the story is when he finally has the chance to escape as quote on quote himself, he says, it's not about surviving. It's about surviving as me because he is unable to live life as the human that he is. He is convinced that he is a Wolf in a human body, hence the name of the movie Wolf. Speaker 1 00:07:36 And it's, it's not just about him though. It is him along with many others are in this treatment center. There is somebody that thinks she's a wild cat. There's somebody that thinks they're a Panda. There's somebody that thinks they're a parrot. There's somebody who thinks he's a German shepherd. These caretakers are trying to remind these people that they're people, not animals. These patients just can't get out of this mindset, that they are animals. The behaviors of animals, the characteristics of the animals are trying to be portrayed from an acting perspective. They actually do a really good job on that, but this story is just so far out there and it is so disturbing. It's literally uncomfortable to watch. And if you've taken the time to familiarize yourself with the deputy scale, I'm guessing you might imagine where I'm going with this one, because like I said, it's literally uncomfortable to watch. Speaker 1 00:08:33 So honestly, it's in the painful, confusing, horrible unwatchable area just a little bit. And so if you're not familiar with where that is, the score that I did give, this was just a 1.5 out of 10. Now there are very few movies that have gotten a score that low on movie deputy. And if you're curious about them, you can go to Moby deputy.com and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. And it'll actually have our lowest ranking movies, our highest ranking movies, our most popular movies, et cetera on there. And so that would kind of give you an idea on Bobi, is that, are this just cringe-worthy, it's not about acknowledging that it's mental disorder it's about just the Hollywood saw this as enough of an issue to make a movie about this, or are they trying to be ironic or were they trying to address a problem that doesn't even exist is about? Speaker 1 00:09:38 And it pretty much describes the score I gave it. So this one is just, I would not even recommend this to anyone it's stories like this and people that are like this in the real world is why there are places for people like this to live that are not in the general population society as a whole has definitely taken some steps backwards in the progress of humanity and the progress of common sense, because if we acknowledge that things like this are real, then we're doing nothing more than normalizing severely delusional behavior. I want to give my severe and sincere condolences to my regular listening audience that I didn't get around to more movies this past week life happens and kind of got gotten the way I'm definitely going to try to get some more of the Netflix titles and ones like that reviewed for you. Speaker 1 00:10:35 I'm really looking forward to the upcoming movies that are coming up this week. We'll be talking about that on Thursday, December 9th. And I'm really looking forward to sharing all of that with you. Thank you for coming along with me on this interesting and somewhat disturbing episode of our movie recaps. Hopefully we're going to have a lot better ones this week. I mean, it can't get much worse, right? At least I keep telling myself that, but again, thank you for coming along. I truly appreciate it. And I am thankful for every one of you make sure to share like, and subscribe if you haven't done so already for us, you can get the latest and greatest movie, deputy content. I promise we're not always this serious and just kind of with such a harsh undertone to what we're doing, but they are movies that need to be addressed and things like that, especially when they covered topics such as these, I hope you're having a great day. I look forward to next time. Talk to you soon.
